The Entanglement Crystals

Entanglement Crystals

Since Book 2 of the series is entitled the Crystal Entanglement it is reasonable to suppose it involves crystals. The crystals (or gems) have some unique properties; The reader is advised that this page contains some spoilers. If you've paid attention to the books you will realise that the malign crystals were created by the killing of a witch called Hilda: Hallucination,Invisibility,Lust,Discord,Addiction
Jane's pendant
Phoenix Pendant
This is part of a matching pair with Jack's focusser crystal. It was crafted into a gem shape from part of the original larger crystal. As such it is a symbol of the bond between them.

Jack's focusser crystal
Although most wizards use crystals to focus or amplify  their magic Jack does not usually need one but obtained this as a replacement for the amethyst crystal destroyed in Book 1. It is a matched pair with The Phoenix's pendant.

Yellow Crystal of Lust
The Yellow Crystal of Lust
This is a contact twinned crystal which is a pale yellow in colour. At its heart there is a red coloured  flaw which appears to change position as the crystal is viewed from different angles. When stimulated the crystal induces lust in its victim. The lust is primal and has no connotations of affection. The reaction of the victim is often accompanied by uncontrolled violence or abandon.

The Blue Crystal of Addiction
The original form of this crystal is unknown as its discoverer had it shaped and polished into a dome cabochon so that it could be mounted in a ring. The artisan who shaped it must have been affected by its properties but something about his or her mind had prevented the crystal taking control. It induces severe addiction into its owner amplifying the owner’s original predilictions. Hence an owner who drank would become an alcoholic, an owner who was addicted to nicotine might become addicted to more powerful drugs. The addiction is not necessarily physical; addiction to a mental ideal such as a person’s desire to become thin, might cause them to become anorexic. The addiction is not confined to the crystal’s owner, anyone in close contact for a length of time becomes drawn into the addiction as well.

The Red Crystal of Discord
The Red Crystal of Discord
This is a rich red single monoclinic prism which was originally embedded in a metallic matrix. The matrix was shed when the cytstals united to form the finding for the composite necklace. This gem induces anger. The anger is usually irrational and manifests itself in extreme violence and hatred. The hatred is usually directed to anyone in the vicinity of the owner.

The Green Crystal of Invisibility
This is a green orthorhombic prismatic crystal which has a surface sheen resembling the rainbow colours seen in oil films on water. The colours appear to twist and writhe depending upon the direction of the incident light. This crystal creates invisibility for its owner but only if the owner provides a source of nourishment, blood is usual. It is also the only crystal in the set whose behaviour can be affected by magic. For a non-wizard owner the invisibility effect only encompasses the owner’s own flesh. For a wizard, the invisibility may be extended by magical means to include nearby inanimate objects e.g. clothing.

The Pale Crystal of Hallucination
The Pale Crystal of Hallucination
This crystal is a cubic teardrop-shaped gem which is transparent. Its surface is slightly roughened so that it appears somewhat milky in reflected light. The facets on the crystal can induce a mesmeric effect on both the owner and on any living thing in its vicinity. Hence it can induce comprehensive hallucinations over a range of up to about ten metres. The form of the hallucinations are derived from the owner’s thoughts and hence this crystal is more effective when owned by a ‘dreamer’.
